Hi in my recent GMAT I stumbled over GMAT pressure. I was scoring 710-740 in Official mocks.

But in the exam I blacked out and got so nervous that I really could not do anything during the exam. I got 580!!!!.

I had attempted all official material and practice tests. I don't know what to do for the re-attempt. I am really demotivated.

Please someone suggest what to change with my preperation given that I have exhausted all the prep material.

Hey Deep - I would suggest you to give it another shot as you seem to fare well in your mocks. 580 is definitely an anomaly and you are capable of scoring more. One thing that helped me control my anxiety while giving for mocks is to do some sort of exercise (Pushups seem to work). If that's not working then stick to some other thing that can take your mind off before the start of the exam

I may be wrong but since you got used to the environment where you gave your mocks, it wouldn't be a bad idea to go for the online version as it gives you the comfort

Hi deep31993,

I'm sorry to hear that Test Day didn't go as well as planned. When these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?

Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

If you took your GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

Don't beat yourself up over it. It is not at all uncommon for people to get nervous and underperform on the real exam, even among those who typically perform very well on mock tests.
