I am an ORM from India with 7 years of work ex. I have got admits at full time MBA program at the 3 mentioned B Schools. My long term ambition is to get into sustainability consulting at MBBs, and later establish my own sustainability-focused company. I'll be heavily relying on loans for my studies. Scholarship negotiations were rejected everywhere. I need to decide in a week.
Ross seems to have a mature sustainability and consulting ecosystem, while Rice has a location advantage and of course the scholarship.
With money, Rice would have been an easy choice, but when I talked to students there, they told me that placements are really bad right now.
More than 50% international students are expecting to go back after the MBA. They also told me that opportunities beyond Texas is limited with Rice, limiting my opportunities beyond energy companies. Rice also does not have a as mature ecosystem for sustainability as there is at Ross.
Ross is a T15, a solid consulting and sustainability focused school. I really liked the culture too. It also comes with a failsafe in case you can't land up a job in 2 years, you can opt for dual degree in sustainability, giving you 6 more months to find the job.
Then there is Mannheim, which is best B school in Germany. But I'll be starting for German from scratch. Even though sustainability opportunities are wide in EU, getting in consulting without excellent German language is almost impossible. Therefore I'll have to change my plans there. But there is no stress of visa or H1B, or even finding a job within 3 months of program. Plus work life balance is great, good for my startup ambitions.
If you ask me, I badly badly want to go to Ross. But almost everyone I talked to advised against it (except Rice students, who adviced me to still go to Ross lol). Please advise what should I do.

Hey here is my opinion in-terms of schools you posted and to the members I spoke with
1) About Rice it's 100% true what you have written. Current market situation in USA is bad for any visa holders Irrespective of degree and experience considering you will be graduating in Fall 2028 things May be cooling down a bit while you get out of school(God Knows) market might or might not be picking up .... Rice has limited Alumni which is mainly focused in and around Houston(And also concentration mainly on ENERGY AND HEALTHCARE IN HOUSTON) or at the most in Texas. Outside of Texas it will be hard with the degree you earn to earn a good ROI. Also considering the course fee around $130k+ for 2026 Fall Intake I might suggest you can opt for an other B-School of reputed degree(on-paper) which has national recognition instead of localized. So Rice I would keep as a final GO among all the options.
2) ROSS has a higher ranking compared to RICE so I would anytime suggest go for ROSS(EYE'S CLOSED)
3) Mannheim my dream tooo....but if you do not want the visa hurdles in future(as I know the ground reality here) coz I would suggest go with GERMAN option. With the investment you are keeping I would expect the ROI should be 10 times the current investment. So to be on that level at least there should be no visa tensions for nearly 5-8 Years to repay the loan and + savings. Again I do not have idea about current German immigration and PR situation for Indian visa holders and future job perspectives better to talk to students who are pursuing MBA there once.
