Full time or Executive?
I am considering doing an EMBA instead of a full time MBA because my age (32) and experience (7 years) are above the average. What’s your opinion? Should I pass for the MBA and focus on an EMBA or do I still have options for being accepted at good school for the full time?

32 years old
Married + 2 children
Citizenship: Chilean
Chilean education in top business school: Industrial Engineer (2.7) and Master in Business Engineering (3.2). I just did the standard GPA conversion but don’t know if GPA’s from Chile are evaluated by admissions committee with the same criteria as the US since the reality in Chile is that no one scores more than 3.5 (6.0 in the local grading system, 7.0 being the highest)
7 years of experience in the US working for a leader airline in Latin America & Brazil, promoted twice.
Majority partner at a family owned mining company raising more than $ 5M for mining exploration investment
Just started mentoring school students under a non profit

Thanks for your post. It does sound like you on that border where either COULD work, with some caveats. Look into specific schools you are considering for their requirements and average student profiles of both programs for comparison, and keep in mind there are a few Exec programs that actually require 8 years of experience or look for 10+ (but there are also some where 7 is fine too). The experience would be quite different-- full time is literally full-time immersion, and taking a break from your current job. Most exec programs are structured in a way that you can continue working and do the coursework around your job, hence many exec students are sponsored by their companies. Lots to think about and consider. And the GMAT will be relevant too, so be sure to prepare thoroughly. Let us know how else we can help!
