I love funny things and many people hate me for that :D
If you have any funny gmat stories or "how many MBA's does it take to change a lightbulb" or why blondes can't get 200 on the GMAT, post them in.
here is mine:
It happened a year ago, Sept 01.
I have been studying for the GMAT for about a year and a half. I had an ARCO book (it was a fabulous outdated 1997 edition; by the end of the story you will find out why I hate Arco), but I really did not take any computer tests, just paper exams, so I did not really know my scores. It was a pretty lousy prep since I did not have a deadline.. well you know. Anyway, In Sept I finally got Kaplan's GMAT Guide book with CD, which was pretty cool. So, I decided to take a sample GMAT and told my friend about it after I had to reject a party invitation. So, he says, I wanna take the test too, just to see what it is. So, both of us took it (burnt an extra CD for him). Well, he did not study for a year, or had any prep or anything, so he gets 530, which I thought that's what he deserves.... I made fun of him for a while until I took mine. I got 540.
I also know a person who got 240, I think it is 2 or 3 percentile.
I don't know how she got a college degree or did she not?

Princeton Review's book mentions a person who was able to get a very good score by cheating a scoring machine. Back in the 70's the paper tests were scored by machines with one significant drawback - they did not take into consideration multiple answers. Thus, theoretically, a person who would fill in all the answer choices on the test would get the perfect score. This was a paper test of course. ETS was aware of this flaw, so the procedure for scoring such tests was the following: a machine adminstrator had to go through all the tests and make sure there was only one answer per question. If there were more than one, he/she counted the question wrong.
Nevertheless, one smart kid 8) managed to fill in the answer choices with a pencil so that it was invisible to the eye of the administrator but was good enought for the machine to catch it.
I am not sure if he got caught immediately or it took a while, but Princeton Review says a few years later the man was found guilty of a homocide.... end of story.
