Original price = x

x * 0.6 = 165

x * 3/5 = 165

x * 1/5 = 55

x = 5 * 50 + 5 * 5 = 250 + 25 = 275 answer choice A

Furniture was bought at a 40% reduction sale for $165.00. What was the listed price of the furniture?

(A) $ 275.00
(B) $ 175.00
(C) $ 200.00
(D) $ 375.00
(E) $ 300.00

Selling price after 40% reduction is 165

So, 165 is 60% of the listed price .

165/60 * 100 = 275.

A is the correct answer.

(B) $ 175.00

40% discount --> 60% of original price = 165 $
--> 60/100*x = 165
--> x = 165*10/6 = 275 $

Option A
