Garden A is a 225 meter by 180 meter rectangular vegetable garden, and Garden B is a rectangle with exactly half the length and width of Garden A. What is the ratio of the area of Garden A to the area of Garden B?

(A) 1 : 4
(B) 1 : 2
(C) 2 : 1
(D) 4 : 1
(E) 8 : 1

Solution –

Here we do not have to calculate the area of Garden A and Garden B with the numbers given in the question.

Area of Garden A= \(Length (L) × Width (W)\)

Area of garden B = \(\frac{(Length (L))}{2}×\frac{(Width (W))}{2}\)

Ratio of Area = \(Garden A: Garden B = (Length × Width): (\frac{Length}{2}× \frac{Width}{2} ) = \frac{4}{1}\)

Ratio of Area = 4:1

Answer - D

Area of A = \(225*180\)
Area of B = \(\frac{1}{2}*A\)

Ratio A/B = \(225*180 / ((1/2 * 225) * (1/2 * 180))\) = 4:1
