Hey guys,
I would really appreciate any help determining my chances to get into certain school, as I feel like the strength of my applications could either be solid (not bad not good) or weak for the schools I'm applying to. I really can't begin to guess my odds of acceptance.
Schools: I'm shooting for Duke, North Carolina, Georgetown, and Michigan. Yale as a absolute flier. I am aiming for round 2. My essays are about half finished and, objectively, rather strong so far.
App:
-GMAT: 710
-Undergrad: 3.3 from Michigan. Psychology and Film double major. I was also an engineering major for a while and took a lot of math. I'm sure if that help or not.
-Experience: teacher for 5 years in South Korea. This past year I was promoted and currently oversea a team of 6 Korean teachers and 4 Western teachers. During coronavirus, I started a tutoring business that was successful but was unable to renew the business visa due to coronavirus, or so I was told. (As an aside, any tips on how to best quantify the tutoring business on my resume would be appreciated. I reckon that an experience I should emphasize).
-I also have some, but not a ton, of volunteer experience.
-My essays are almost finished.
-I'm a good to great interviewee. Not exceptional but I'm confident in ability to make a good impression.
I know my GMAT is about average for Duke, UNC, and Georgetown and on the lower side low for Michigan and Yale. And I know my GPA is below average. And while my experience living and working in Korea is certainly unique, I'm not sure how it appears. I could see programs both being very intrigued and being kind of meh.
I ask for 2 reasons:
-1: I'd simply like to know what kind of odds you think I have, just for the sake of planning ahead. I know it'll be tough for me to get into Michigan and Yale, but Duke Fuqua and UNC Kenan-Flagler are my first options are would greatly appreciate any insights.
-2: Perhaps most pressingly, I wondering if I should retake the GMAT. While my 710 is pretty good, I scored 3 760s and 1 750 on my practice exams. I really knew the test well. However, last winter, when I took the test, I admittedly had a bad case of the corona blues and could never seem to pull myself together. I scored a 710 3 times; I knew how to do the questions but my thoughts just slipped through my brain like water. Im feeling great these days and with time feel confident about getting at least a 730, but I'm also incredibly busy and would need to sacrifice some much needed sleep time. I will retake the test if I need to, but if I have a good shot at my schools, I would avoid a retake.
Again, any insights would be greatly appreciated.
