Hello everyone,
I am taking my GMAT in 2 months.
I want to reach the 600 - 650 range in my mocks.
I gave some mock tests and the scores are -
Mar 22 2014 - GMAT Prep - 540 Q47, V18 (This was the first test, without any strategies or preparation)
April 5, 2014 -
MGMAT 1 - 590 Q44, V29 (I was bit cool in this test, then the last mock test)
Did my preparation for couple of months in which I studied
MGMAT SC - which helped me get the grammar concepts tested. I had a break in studies in the beginning of June and then restarted again mid August.
Aug 23, 2014 -
MGMAT 2 - 550 Q39, V28.
I think I will do better with Maths. I haven't practiced Maths much - 10 % practice. Once I do that, I will hopefully score high in Maths.
Also, i am not sure about the Verbal scoring of
MGMAT. Is V28, V29 vs V18 of GMAT Prep. I had around the same number of questions right -
MGMAT V28 (19correct/41),
MGMAT V29(22correct/41) vs GMATPrep V18(17correct/41)of GMAT Prep. Would 2-3 additional questions right, bump up the score that much V18 to V28?? I understand that GMAT is CAT and thus depends on several factors.
I am concerned about test taking tactics in general. I think that is what I am missing. I have good accuracy when I solve the questions in timed environment, but when I am taking the full length tests, I am missing the time management skills or test taking strategies in general.
Please advice -
1. How should I approach each question - while giving mock tests. Should I always try to answer the question in less than 2 mins? I checked my results and saw in some questions of SC and CR, I am taking 3 to 4 to 5 mins.
2. In general i want to utilize my mock tests to develop strategy for GMAT exam. As to - what is working for me. e.g. - When to make a guess and move on? How to approach RC - reading the whole passage, skimming? Developing strategies for SC, working with splits, quickly choosing answers etc
3. In my last mock test - I was left with very less time in the end and skipped an entire RC passage and guessed some other questions quickly - rather than making educated guesses.
4. I get stressed out - if I am lagging on time (towards the end) or if I did not do well in IR.
Please advice how should I approach the mock tests - I want to help keep my nerves cool during the exam and not get stressed out and work on time management during mock tests, so that I do the same in GMAT. Answering a questions within 2 mins would help because that way i will be ok on time but hopefully my accuracy should not suffer, and even if making guesses in between be cool and confident during the tests. Educated guesses helps, random guess - would make me nervous.
Should I look at mock tests - more for enhancing my time management and devising the strategies that are working for me? and of course keep myself cool.
