Sorry that this topic has been discussed to death, but I decided to get some opinions.

I'm looking to apply to INSEAD (Sep 2019 intake) and I'm worried that my CV and career achievements don't measure up.

I'm a medical doctor by training, graduated in 2013 and worked mostly in the front line as a Medical Officer. I've spent the last 1.5 years planning a hospital, i.e. mostly no patient contact, and my company is agreeable to sponsor me for a (local) MBA (INSEAD qualifies since I'm based in Singapore).

My GMAT is 720, however my verbal outweighs my quant by quite a bit.

Now, my main problem is, I find that while perhaps I do get some diversity advantage (if any), I don't have the numbers or achievements to back up my CV the way (I perceive) people from other industries have. I don't have much in terms of international experience or extra-curricular activities either.

Any comments or advice would be very welcome! I'm having an initial conversation with the INSEAD admissions officer in a week, and I hope it's not too late ><

Hi,

Getting a company sponsorship for MBA is a definite advantage as it takes off the burden of placing you off the b-school's back. I will also view your work with the hospital planning as positive. You could probably spin a story about seeing both sides of a hospital- as a doctor and as administrator - and this gives you a chance to work upon the weak areas in hospital management- which could further link to your goals. Ofocurse, I would need to know your whole story to advise any deeper, but these are my initial thoughts on.

Having a lacking CV could be your perception as you compare your CV with more traditional career paths. The admissions committee will evaluate you on the basis of your strengths and merits, and on what impact you have made in your professional sphere. So, stay calm and put together your best application.

INSEAD does deeply value international experience. Singapore being a cultural melting pot, you could come up with examples where you had to work with people from multiple nationalities and thus were able to widen your perspective. Eventually, your goals and why you need an MBA will matter a great deal in telling a coherent story, so these aspects should be deeply thought through.

All the best for your discussion with the adcom. This is an opportunity for you to make the right impression from the start, so do ponder over questions such as why MBA, why INSEAD before you talk to him.
