Good call Dahiya. I was also budgeting about $100~200 p/recommender but wasn't sure what to get. When all else fails, I guess we could send a Godiva tower.

Who doesn't like Belgian chocolate?

holla! Let rhyme take the wine, I'll take the whisky.

How do you want your single malt sir?

Cardhu is really nice and drinkable
Lagavulin is peaty and great
Laphroiag is a bit lighter on the peat (as in you don't feel the need to chew it)
Talisker is alright as well

8 years in Scotland Rhyme - I had but no choice.

14 year Highland Park is a good one ($105)
16 year Lagavulin is down at ($85)

Do you know what Scotch he drinks? I mean the Highland Park is probably a safer bet and all, but the Lagavulin is incredible stuff.

I will chat with my whisky friend some more tonight.

Thanks, where would I get these? I had a tough time online with the Highland park and doubt my local liquor store would carry it.

White or red?
Any particular region/country?

I went to bar with him once. I think he likes Merlot. He is in California.

LOL. Get him anything then :)

I'd get him a chateneuf for $40 or so. Its a nice bottle, its good, easy on the palete, and easy on the wallet. It's also a fairly recognizable name - if he knows anything about wine he'll recognize it.

And get him this:

i thought it was interesting that many of you are thinking about giving gifts *now*. i figured that my recommenders put in a lot of work for my app, whether or not i got in. they got their thank you gifts at xmas time.

they were both female, so i got them both silver bracelets from tiffany. i'll confess that i bought them off ebay so they were cheaper than buying them retail, but i made sure they were new with tags, etc. $85 a piece (instead of $300 retail).

they were both over the moon!
