Given \(A + B = 5\). Is \(A > B?\)
(1) \(A^2 > B^2\);
\(A^2 - B^2>0\);
\((A + B)(A - B)>0\);
Since given then A + B = 5, then \(5(A - B)>0\);
\(A - B > 0\);
\(A > B\).
Sufficient.
(2) \(B < 0\).
We know that A + B = 5 = positive and that B is negative. If A also were negative, then the sum of two negative numbers couldn't be positive, therefore A must be positive: (A = positive) > (B = negative). Sufficient.
Answer: D.
