Hi MAH,
Since you've been a registered user of this site for some time, I'm curious about the work that you've done so far to prepare for the GMAT.
1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) Have you taken the Official GMAT yet? If so, then how did you score?

Hey Rich,
Thanks for the reply.
1) To be honest, it's been on and off studying. I tried studying it over the summer, but I think I may have got my timetabling all wrong and I spent too much time. I've considered refining the strategy and starting with concise but complete summary notes for Quant then working backwards and plugging gaps of knowledge, rather than what I was doing which was trying to read the books from cover to cover. At least I now know better the structure of the exam and the topics tested within, so I could see myself covering it much quicker now when I do resume studying, which should be soon.
The above applies to quant ofcourse. I realise i'd have to do a lot more reading with Verbal, but i'm already kinda strong in RC, it's only CR and SC where there's a problem.
2) Mostly Veritas Prep, but I also have Manhattan materials. But I feel like it's a lot to remember.
3) No, I haven't I sat one of the free GMAT prep exams they give, scored 38 in Quant, but targeting 49/50, which is a huge leap but I still figure doable.
23 in Verbal I think it was, and here there is a bit more work. I'm not a native speaker (from Africa), but still consider my English pretty good. That said, I could definitely see with Verbal there were much bigger gaps in knowledge to fill. I learnt English mostly by reading and being exposed to English media sources/pop culture etc, and with that much exposure you kind of "figure out" what's right or wrong. That's mostly what helps me in SC for example, I can figure out what "doesn't sound right" but my mastering of the fundamentals and grammar skills is really poor. For example, only recently did I learn a phrase between two commas can sometimes be skipped, and other such basics. Kinda embarassing haha, but there you go.
Overall I think it's a 510.
And that's where I stand. I should add a note, I didn't really review notes before sitting this. I had studied the material, but for this sitting I didn't really memorise or solidify what i'd learned. My memory can be poor at times, it's a lot worse than it used to be, so even basic concepts which I can easily solve, I struggle to sometimes remember.
