Hi guys,
Just took GMAT and scored a mere 580. Just wanted to share the experience...the questions were tougher than the ones in GMAT Prep. I am still not sure how to get to terms with the score.
My score in MGMAT were 580,640,640,640,680,640 and in the last two GMAT Prep tests that I took scored 680 and 690. So I was expecting to score around 680-690 but all I could manage was 580. Planning to re-take the test but not sure when. I am not confident enough now to re-take the test immediately after the 31 day gap. So if I re-take the test sometime by end Feb could you please give me inputs on whether I can apply for schools for fall 2010 or will I have to wait till fall 2011?

great first attempt. approximately how long did you study for?
although your Q is low (compared to the standards that this board set for everyone
), clearly you can do better on the verbal. improving your verbal will put you into the range of scores you saw during your practice exams.
have you looked at the manhattan SC guide? or any of the manhattan guides in general? you can look through these and attempt to improve your verbal skills or you can continue to find/do more and more verbal related questions so you can become more familiar with the question format, more familiar with what they are asking you for, etc.

I prepared for around a month with 2-3 hours per day. Yes I went through the Manhattan SC guide and I have to improve both my quants and verbal scores.
