Yesterday, I took the GMAT and scored a 580 (Q35 and V35). I was aiming for 600, so yes, I was not terribly off, but I am unsure if I should retake it. Honestly, I never felt comfortable during the test at all, I felt as if I was 70% sure on most of the questions, so getting the 580 was almost a relief I didn't do worse. I've been studying since December, took a really great Knewton course and have all the
Manhattan GMAT books, which were also very helpful. I had been getting low to mid 500s on the practice GMATPreps and Knewton tests even but the low 600s on the
MGMAT tests, which truthfully did not seem very representative.
But, a bit about me. I do not have a very strong math/quant background. In fact, I began talking business courses as an undergrad but since I was getting C's there was no point in continuing so I went with public relations. I finished with a 3.0 GPA and have been working for the past few days on in PR and public health. Now, I’m not delusional- I don’t expect to get into a top school but I’m just curious as to my shot at a mid-level school. I’m only looking in the Philadelphia area (I live here, wife is in school, etc…), so obviously Wharton would be out of the question. But, I’m curious about Drexel (LeBow), St. Joseph’s (Haub) or even Temple (Fox) by a long shot. I am not set on even applying for this fall since I’m working and plan to while I’m school so I am interested in programs that may start next spring/January (e.g. part time programs). I’m thinking maybe I’ll have a better shot if I apply early to the schools that have start times in the spring semester. Now, if I think I’ll improve 30-50 points, I would take the GMAT again but besides being burned out at the moment, I don’t think I can expect to do much better.
Any thoughts, suggestions? Take some community college math course to beef up the profile?
