Anupam2024
Hi everyone...
I just scored 615 on GMAT focus V70/Q76/DI79
I have experience of 8 years in a DFI (i know its a bit late for MBA) and CGPA of 4.0(As per GMAT marking)
I am looking for admissions in colleges like LBS, Kellogg, Cambridge, Oxford and others in the same ranking for Sep 25 intake.
I am also planning to take one more attempt in late November 24.
Can someone please suggest, are my marks enough to get into my target colleges or should I wait for my November 24 attempt. Also if someone can suggest some good consultants operating in Delhi/Mumbai.
Thanks.
Hey
Anupam2024 ,
Starting with your GMAT Focus score of 615 (V70/Q76/DI79), you're slightly below the median scores for your target schools. Most of the schools on your list have median GMAT scores ranging between 690-730. To remain competitive for these schools, aiming for a score closer to this range could strengthen your profile. If your practice scores suggest that you can get a 700+ score with your November attempt, that would be great.
While you have 8 years of experience, which could be seen as a bit above the average for some programs, your depth in VC and finance will appeal to admissions. Emphasizing leadership growth over the years and how an MBA complements your future career trajectory can help address this. DFIs are seen as mission-driven organizations, which could position you as someone who brings a broader, socially impactful perspective to finance. A good track record in SME credit and venture capital may align well with certain specializations within these MBA programs, such as entrepreneurship, venture capital, or impact finance. Schools like LBS and Oxford emphasize these fields in their curriculum.
Your 4.0 CGPA in Engineering reflects a high academic aptitude. This is particularly valued by schools like LBS and Cambridge Judge. LBS, Oxford, and Cambridge are well-known for their 1-year programs, but Kellogg offers a 1-year option specifically for those with undergraduate business coursework. For Kellogg's traditional 2-year program, your profile would still be competitive with a higher GMAT score.
You should focus on impactful stories from your DFI experience, particularly in venture capital. Highlight key projects, your leadership in these roles, and the unique insights you’ve gained in developing economies or social impact finance. Just a suggestion, while you’re aiming for September 2025 intake at the top schools, consider applying to a few schools that are still highly reputable but try to have some safe schools in your bucket, like IESE or SDA Bocconi, as additional options.
Overall, your academic performance and unique experience in finance position you well, but a GMAT score boost would enhance your competitiveness for top-tier schools. Additionally, articulating clear post-MBA goals that build on your finance background will be crucial to align with each school’s strengths and improve your overall candidacy.
We are
happy to hop on a call sometime this week to discuss your profile in detail to assess your chances better for top b-schools, if that suits you.
