In my opinion, GMAT vs. GRE is not a black vs. white topic. It is known that GMAT leans more towards quant while the GRE leans towards verbal. If one's past/future career direction requires quant skills and one goes for GRE, it could make someone think/doubt about your quant strengths and, hence, the ability to succeed.
Anecdotally, I heard that management consulting firms prefer GMAT over GRE, but then my candidate with an average GRE not only got admitted in a T25 but has also converted her internship with McKinsey into a full-time offer. So nothing is black/white.
Again, this is just a personal perspective. You should go for that exam where you believe you can shine.

Hi guys,
I have a GMAT score of 645 and a gre score of 320. Planning to give again in the next 3 months - targeting a 685+ score on GMAT.
Considering that I will be targeting the next intake for MBA, which exam should I focus on? Is GRE at par with GMAT when it comes to scrutinising the application? Further, do top B-schools give equal weightage to GRE, or is the inclination still towards GMAT?
