Hi all,
I took my gmat retake a couple of days ago and sadly scored 650, a full 50 points below my target score of 700+.
I should note that my first attempt at gmat about 1.5 months back was poor(I got a 570), as I had COVID and was not able to perform at my best. An 80 point improvement from that first attempt seems alright, but the fact is that since I took my first gmat exam, I have consistently been scoring 680+ on my official mocks and was getting Q46 or more & V38 or more. My verbal score in particular was a complete disappointment. My quant score was alright as it fell within my expected range of Q46-Q49 in my mocks.
Please let me know of the following:
1) Why was my verbal score so low? Was it because of the last quarter? Why did this happen? Did the gmat start continuously throwing hard questions at me and did that account for the steep drop in my score, or was the difficulty of questions more or less the same as it was in the other quarters? Based on the ESR, what areas can I improve on and what practice methods can I follow to prevent this from happening in the future?
2) Are there any glaring weaknesses that you can see from my Quant score that I should work on? Please let me know what areas I can work on in this section as well.
3) I know that my IR is quite poor(to be honest I didn’t spend a single minute practising any questions in this section, but it’s obvious I should). Would the IR question banks from the official mocks suffice to practice IR(although I have taken all official mocks, I have not touched any of the practice questions provided with them).
Thank you to all for your help in advance. I have been feeling ashamed and thoroughly put down over the past few days, but I don’t want to give up just yet, as I feel(based on past performance) that my best in verbal is yet to come.
