Hey guys
So i was initially gonna apply for colleges for September 2018 but on further research found several with spring intakes as well.
On realizing this i found that the deadlines were october 1 to oct 30th
So i gave my first GMAT attempt on 11th october, scoring a 680(Q44, V40). AWA - 4.5
I was mortified on having screwed up quant.
And again on 28th getting a 710 (Q 43,V44)

Before that i had only read about the gmat, its format and gone through the OG for a week ( i know i am a dumbass)
I also gave 3 mock tests.
GMAC prep 1 - 720 (q49, v39)
GMAC prep 3- 710 (q47,v 40)
Manhatten - 700

My verbal was okay but quant was taking too much time and i used to pause a lot on the mocks,.
This came back to haunt me as i screwed up time management in the actual exam and had 10q left in the last 10 minutes and i absolutely panicked.
Verbal saved me from embarrassment , even though im not a native speaker.
I used to read a lot which helped my RC etc tremendously.

After i got the score, i thought that i would study and given the deadlines and my 50th percentile in quant,
Easily increase my score to atleast a q48-49
And thus my overall score.
But applying to universities, writing essays etc
And basically not being a hardworking person at all, I ended up not studying even a little.
Just went through the formulae and gave 3 more mock tests.
Gmac prep 2- 730 (q48, v42)
Gmac prep 5- 690(q44,v41)
Manhattan 700 (q47, v38)

Finally 16 days went by fast and on D day i was pretty confident that as long as i didnt screw up timing i would be fine,.
Turned out my lack of practice was my downfall. AND Increasing speed to compensate lead to loss of accuracy.
I thought the paper was easier than last time, but that must have been due to my incorrect answers.
I absolutely breezed through verbal and when the final score came i was both elated and severely disappointed. 710 (Q43 - 50%, V44 - 98%)

My quant score had dropped even further n although verbal helped me cross 710.
I am not sure if such a unbalanced score will be acceptable to universities.
Also i have a absolutely horrible undergrad gpa.
Any opinions if i should apply to IE or other colleges or retake again?
I'm confident of easily boosting my quant with 2 weeks of actual practicing.

My most sincere and important advice to test takers would be to read every question carefully and see what is it that it is asking and to GIVE ALL THE GMAT PREP AND MANHATTEN MOCKS in proper timed conditions.

For quant i am clearly not the person to talk to,
But for verbal
ONLY follow actual GMAT questions as even Manhattan doesnt hold up
Especially CR. In CR its supremely important to be relevant to the argument in question exactly and match your answers to that specific argument only.

Should i retake again in 16 days? (this time actually practice)
I will have to wait for the September intake then even if i get a good score.
Or apply with the unbalanced 710 for spring intake?

Thanks for reading, any opinions would be appreciated.

Congrats on pulling a 710 off! Also impressive you wrote all of that on a mobile device!

My advice would be to consider your complete application package and consider where can you add the most value. If you need the time to write essays then you should invest it into that. However, if you have the time for essays and could easily retake in 16 days, then I would absolutely bump your Q to at least 46 or 47. 48 and higher are ideal, and taking into consideration your GPA, you need all the help you can get in that regard/area.

P.S. If it is indeed something you can improve in 2 weeks, I would say absolutely give your ass a workout.

Congrats and good luck!

It really depends on what you want to do and what you are shooting for. I see you are applying mostly to European Schools and you got into some - that may be good enough for what you are looking/shooting for. You have unique enough background that they may forgive your GPA. Most folks here tend to try to get into the best ranked schools they can - this again goes along with my recommendation - see what the best ROI for your time is and act on that.

Good Luck!

Thank you for the advice bb,
I think im gonna go for it, just hope that i can re score the verbal 44 at the same time as improving my quant.
And well while i would love to go to the top ranked schools in the us too, i ha e qualms about waiting six more months and then getting rejected due to my gpa.
But yeah i understand yoir point.

And i forgot to mention that Gmat club's forums and resources have really helped me get aquainted with the test taking strategies etc
The list with all the CATs is brilliant.
Also the strategy of writing down ABCDE for verbal really helped.
Great job bb.
