I'm new to the forum hence I'm sorry if I'm posting in the incorrect location. I will get more conversant with the site as I navigate more. I appeared for my first GMAT yesterday and scored 720 (Q50, V37) with a 4 (40 %) in IR. I struggled in the IR section since I had to spend too much time on the 2 Multi source reasoning questions. I am worried about my low IR score (4) and am wondering if I should retake the exam. Would that be the correct thing to do? Given that it has been a few years since the IR section was introduced, has the IR score gained more importance now?

I am not sure if I'll be able to improve my Quant+Verbal score significantly. Any advice would be immensely helpful. Thank you so much.

Hey. IR-4 shouldn't be problem mostly. But you have shown your quantitative skill with your high Quant. And also you can show it your essay or other parts of apps where you are good at data analysis in work. And any recommenders comment that you are really in processing information etc.

Hi, and thanks for writing! The Q and V sections are most important - though the IR score is on the lower side, I wouldn't worry about it since schools are still trying to figure out how to factor in IR (even though it has been a few years, they're still more concerned with overall score and Q/V subsections). If you'd scored a 1-2, I might recommend trying to retake.

Hope that helps! Let me know of any other questions :)

Congrats on beating the GMAT - 720 is a fantastic score and IR score of 4 should not be an issue. All the best for your apps!! :-)
