What is in terms of ?

What is y in terms of x?

1) 1/ x/y+y/x = 1/2
2) x/y-y/x = 0

(C) 2008 GMAT Club - Algebra - I#10

Statement (1) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (2) ALONE is not sufficient
Statement (2) ALONE is sufficient, but Statement (1) ALONE is not sufficient
BOTH statements TOGETHER are sufficient, but NEITHER statement ALONE is sufficient
EACH statement ALONE is sufficient
Statements (1) and (2) TOGETHER are NOT sufficient
The OA is A but , i think both the statements answer the question

statement 2 - x/y - y/x = 0

we can write this as sqr(x) - sqr(y) = 0, which can say y = +- X

why is this not sufficient.could someone please explain

Unless Y = distinct value of X, we cannot say what is Y in terms of X.
Because Y can be either +x or -x .But in A,we know that Y has only one value
