Looking through some of the debriefs by people who've scored well/improved their scores could be helpful. You could see what they did/used during their prep and maybe take some quick tips as well. Replaying what happened during your exam as you look over your score report data may provide some helpful insight. If you share it here, people may provide some specific suggestions as well.

For CR, consider checking out Manhattan-Prep's 6th Edition for Critical Reasoning. For RC, becoming familiar with how inference questions work could also be helpful.

Hi! I've completed my 3rd GMAT test in a period of 3 months now, and am honestly exhausted of it. First up, I'll give a debrief on my score.

First Exam (after a solid prep. of 2 months)
Q 78
V 79
DI 77
Total: 565

Second Exam (2 more months later)
Q 80 (was a little bamboozled with 3 mistakes)
V 76
DI 71
Total: 515

Third Exam (20 days after)
Q 65 (was honestly just exhausted and ended up not finishing the section. Had a mishap too where my booklet had run out of pages and the test center folks were busy chatting away to notice immediately.)
V 78
DI 80
Total: 495
(Awaiting official score report - the test center wasn't able to validate the end of my test and couldn't give me an acknowledgement, but they apparently confirmed via phone that my exam has been recorded and I should receive an email from GMAC on the same.)

Following my first exam, I've just not been able to string together a consistent set of scores. My mocks have ranged from 625 to 685 on the official mocks.

If taken sectionally, my highest scores are Q80 (64%ile) | V79 (48%ile) | DI80 (86%ile) - resulting in either 585/595 per the score calculator on gmatclub forum.

I'm honestly targeting 3 schools now from my earlier list - ISB, INSEAD, LBS. Do you think there's any chance schools would consider the sectional highs and the overall highest of 565; or are these scores too dispersed to be considered by them?

If I'm gonna give this exam again, I don't see myself doing it in the next month because I'm definitely exhausted. I may look at doing it only for the next admission cycle as meeting R2 deadlines feels near impossible now.

Would appreciate any thoughts on what can be done in this scenario. Thank you!

I suggest you to take a good rest, refresh yourself and then start solid prep for exam just like in exam like conditions. Firstly revise the basics and then start taking mocks or sectional tests until exam day. After taking mocks daily you can get used to concentrating for longer time and feel less tired in the exam, also it will help you to improve your speed and better time management.

Hope it helps

Hi slp0824,

Were the questions in these tests "fresh"? Sometimes test takers solve all the questions on GMAT Club and get inflated scores on their practice tests. Also, some test prep companies make close copies of official questions. But if you weren't already familiar with the questions on your tests, 565-495 seems like extraordinarily bad luck for someone who's capable of getting a 685.

I get your point about taking some time off. When you decide to get back to it, do reach out on delv.ac. That's my attempt to offer (free) resources and support to retakers.

Hi slp0824,

From the sounds of your post, I really think burnout has gotten the best of you regarding your GMAT. So, while I don't think you should give up entirely on the exam, I do think you need to take a significant break where you get away from the GMAT and recharge your batteries. Once you are ready to dive back into your prep, feel free to reach out, and I'd be happy to discuss an effective plan moving forward.
