I took the GMAT for the first time and scored 685. After 16 days of gap, I retook the exam and scored 725. During this period, I took three mocks, scoring 735, 735, and 765, respectively.
I used the Official Guide (OG) Books, GMAT
Forum Quiz, the PowerScore Critical Reasoning Bible and GMAT Ninja RC videos for my preparation. My math background made the Quant section relatively easy for me.
Here are a few strategies that worked for me. (See, If this works for others)
- Avoid mistakes in the first 6 questions of each section as going wrong there can heavily influence your score.
- Analyze your mocks thoroughly from score reports to time reports. For example, I observed that non-math TPA questions took me around 3.5 minutes with low accuracy, so if I was running late, I skipped those questions and many similar patterns were identified
- Avoid not spend more than 4 minutes on any single question; it's better to move on than to get stuck.
- Avoid going too deep into the MSR content; understand it at a high level as questions rarely touch every part of it.
I completed all 12 OG Mocks, and they were worth it.
