Gave my 1st attempt at GMAT FE and scored 655. Tanked the score in DI (71 percentile whereas Q90 and V83).
Not able to gauge if it is a good score as I was targeting 700+. What colleges can I target with this score and can I get into Melbourne or Sydney business school with GMAT FE 655?

Also confused if I should take a re-attempt?

655 is a solid score - congrats!

If you decide to retake the test, you must identify and strengthen all remaining areas of weakness. So, be sure to thoroughly analyze your practice tests and practice sessions to identify those weaknesses. Then, for each area of weakness:
  • Carefully review all of the properties, formulas, techniques and strategies related to that topic
  • Locate and answer dozens of questions that test that topic.

For each question you answer incorrectly, ask yourself:
  • Did I make a careless mistake?
  • Did I incorrectly apply a related formula/property/technique?
  • Did I fall for a trap answer? If so, what was the trap exactly?
  • Was there a concept I did not understand in the question?

By carefully analyzing your mistakes, you will be able to fix your weaknesses efficiently and, in turn, improve your skills. This process has been proven to be effective for all topics.

Might be helpful to check with some consultant considering your profile along with the score, before retaking.

A 655 on GMAT Focus is actually a solid score, especially for a first attempt. Your Quant (90) and Verbal (83) are strong and show clear academic capability. The only real drag is DI, which is also the most improvable section with targeted practice.

For Australian schools:

Melbourne Business School (MBS) – 655 is within range, especially if you have strong work experience, leadership exposure, and a good story. Their class averages are competitive but not rigid.

AGSM (UNSW Sydney) – 655 is definitely competitive, and many admits fall in this range with a solid profile.

You’d also be competitive for schools like Monash, Macquarie, Deakin, UQ, etc.

If your profile is strong (brand-name work experience, impact, progression, leadership), this score will not be a deal-breaker for these schools.

On retaking:

A retake makes sense only if you’re confident you can push DI into the 80+ percentile range.

Even a +20–30 point bump (675–685) would materially strengthen your chances, especially if you’re aiming beyond Australia or targeting scholarships.

If timelines are tight or this was a mentally draining attempt, you can still apply confidently with 655, particularly to Australian programs.
