Hey everyone! I wanted to share my GMAT Focus experience — GMAT Club has been incredibly helpful during my prep, and I hope this post helps someone else out there.
I started my prep in February by taking a cold official mock just to see where I stood. I scored a 615 (Q80 V82 D80). Not terrible, but definitely room for improvement — especially in quant.
Right after that, I enrolled in the
Target Test Prep course and followed their study plan thoroughly. I completed the full course by April, and it gave me a strong foundation, particularly in quant. After finishing TTP, I took my first official practice test and scored 675 (Q87 V81 D83). While the overall score looked decent, verbal was clearly my weak area.
So, I picked up the Official Verbal Guide and spent two focused weeks practicing questions and reviewing explanations. That made a noticeable difference. In my second official mock, I scored 685 — a more balanced performance, though quant dipped a little from my earlier mock.
I took the actual test on May 17 and ended up with a 675 (Q85 V85 D80). I received my official score report on May 28. I'm applying to MiM programs at INSEAD, LBS, and HEC Paris, so having a competitive GMAT score is really important for me.
On test day, I went with the order: Quant → Data Insights → break → Verbal. Quant felt good overall. The DI section, however, was where things went a bit sideways. I spent around 6 minutes on a Graphs & Tables question midway through the section, which hurt my timing badly. I had to rush through the final few questions, and it definitely affected my DI score — which ended up being lower than in my mocks.
Overall, I’m satisfied with my performance but I know I can do better. I’ve already booked a retake for next week. This time, my focus is mainly on time management in DI and continuing practice with the official guide and GMAT Club’s question bank.
A few things I’ve learned along the way: take a diagnostic mock early, use quality resources like TTP for structure, and don’t get stuck on one question — especially in DI where every minute counts. Also, the Official Guides and GMAT Club are super valuable once you’ve got your fundamentals in place.
Happy to answer any questions, and good luck to everyone currently preparing - trust your prep and stay consistent!
