Hi all,
To start with, I am sure 680 (Q47, V37, AW5.5, IR5) is not a high score to boost but it is a fact that many would aspire for 680 since it is considered a decent one for application to many schools. Moreover, for many including myself who arent acquainted with standardized aptitude test before, it might appear to be a struggle. Below is a small tale on how I went about achieving the same.
1. When I got 500 in
OG diagnostic, it was pretty sure that, I wasnt strong in my basics. So for anyone starting at this level, best thing to do is practice lot of easier question either using gmat forum or something else. In fact one should revise and familiarize with concepts tested in gmat before even attempting to practice questions. This is where
EGMAT helps a lot.
2. The best thing I found about
EGMAT is that , it is a single point reference for anything concerning Gmat. Being online, it is easily accesible and concepts can be checked on the go. Explanations are very clear even for novice learners.
3. As one progress, it is better to take the practice test offered by
egmat as it helps a lot in getting the concepts into ones head. This will help as one progresses to tougher questions.
4. Next, dont forget to practice all the questions in official guides. That is the basic foundation block to build everything upon.
5. At later stage, comes the
EGMAT scolarium. IT has amazing collection of question especially on the verbal front. Quant question are bit tougher though but if you manage
egmat quant and score around 75% in each test then >700 is assured. I manager 25% - 50% only in quant scolarium and was able to rake up 47 in quant with that.
6. In case of verbal,
EGMAT make it clear of the concepts. This makes it easier to handle questions. I personally feel
EGMAT verbal SC in scolarium the closest thing that one can get to real gmat. But for some questions I felt CR is not a very accurate representative of actual gmat, since emgat is tougher and different by many counts.
7. And take atleast 3-4 mocks (offical gmat's) given by gmat before actual test. This is actually a real representative of what you get in gmat. Trust me, I got 680 on consecutive mocks and that was my actual score too. So go ahead and take mocks towards the end.
8. Overall,
EGMAT is a best option that one gets in the journey to 680 and above. Now I am very confident of taking 700 and above score too, but I am done with gmat and wont be attempting anymore. I feel it is good for the first attempt though.
And actual test day exp: It was one hell of a day. The city where i hail from Chennai, had maximum rainfall for the year especially on the time I am heading for gmat. City was chocked with traffic. And my nighmare came true. I panicked, ran like hell, and was late for gmat exam by 15mins. and had to run up 5 floors without lift before giving exam. Was stressed out and tired. Only savings grace was everyone including the examiner was late for the test and gmat started only half an hour late. But that definitely took toll on my mental and physical stamina before exam.
Finally, gmat is a mind game and lot of practice. Just by practice practice practice one can get to the score they want. Dont get bogged down by failure. Finally remember that, the questions comes in increasing ranges of difficulty. So if you are in 550 range dont try and waste time on 700 questons. It wont bring in any iota of improvement but it will make you loose confidence. There try 600, then 650 etcc. I would suggest any fellow mates to enrol of
egmat. All the best. THank you.
