how important are IR and Essay part of the GMAT? Do b-schools pay a lot of attention to them? : It depends, but majorly Q+V score matters, and avrage in IR and AWA is preferable

So, although IR and AWA are scored separately from and considered less important than quant and verbal, schools still do care about your IR and AWA scores in the sense that if you score very low in those sections, it’d probably be a red flag on your application.
The good news is that you can master AWA without a significant amount to prep. Furthermore, IR contains components of both verbal and quant, so if you can master those sections first, you should be able to prep for IR fairly easily.

Many Business Schools do not put much (if any) emphasis on an Applicant's IR Score, but they still expect Applicants to at least score at a minimum level on the AWA (typically a 4.0 out of 6.0). If you would like to know how any specific Programs view these sections of the GMAT, then you should contact them directly and ask (the School's representatives will likely be happy to answer any questions that you have).
1) What is your overall goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
