GMAT Mock CATs

Question

Hi Guys,

I have taken around 5 mock CATs from Manhattan, Kaplan and Veritas and have scored 710 in each of them.

I am planning to go for Princeton Review's mock CATs. Are they worth the time and money ?

Hi amit1989,

If you took just 5 total CATs from those 3 companies, were those CATs the free 'marketing' CATs? When you took those CATs, did you complete the Essay and IR sections too (or just the Quant and Verbal sections)? Have you used the CATs available from www.mba.com?

The bigger question is what are you doing to improve yourself between takes? The practice exams are in part for practicing the test experience and for determining your areas of improvement. If you are scoring the same on all the tests, you probably need to invest time/effort into working on your areas of weakness so you can experience score improvement between exams...

Hi amit, Kyle raises a good point: debriefing after your CATs are just as important in your preparation as taking the CAT itself. Sometimes, it takes just as long as well. Were you able to determine your strength and weaknesses from the CATs? If so, what are they and how are you planning on addressing your weaknesses? Go for quality over quantity. Make sure you incorporate in your study plan the two free GMATPrep tests and the two additional CATs that are called Exam Pack 1. Also identify the areas of your weakness and focus on strengthening them.

Hi amit1989,

That's great that you are staying at the 700 level. If you want to boost your score, however, you'll need to identify the areas in which you need improvement. Go over your tests and try to understand if there are any trends - are you scoring higher in quantitative or verbal? Do you consistently miss critical reasoning questions? Do you find yourself guessing a lot on word problems? etc). Identifying and then working on weaknesses is the only way to see improvement. Keep taking those CATs from whichever source you have, and take them under exam conditions!
