Hi Aryan18,

It sounds like you're just starting out. Is that true? Have you done any studying so far? The online question bank that is available with the OG is a decent additional resource, but it's not something that you "need" for your studies.

If you're just beginning, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a bit of practice first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the general content and question types first, then that's fine - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have your Score, you should report back here and we can discuss the results and any adjustments that you might want to make to your study plan.

I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Hey Aryan,

The online question bank contains the same questions. You probably won’t be able to access the product online but that won’t be a disadvantage.

Thanks a lot! :D

Hi Aryan,

Having an OG online access definitely helps if you want to prepare on your timings.
But there is no disadvantage to not having it. You get the same question (barring few additional online exclusive questions).

Also if you wish to solve the OG question timer based, please visit gmatwithCJ
Other resources which you have mentioned should suffice in your preparation.

Let me know if this answer helps.
Good luck!

Cheers!

Okay, got it. Thanks a lot for the help!

Hey!

1) I am planning to score above 700 (Preferably, 740/760)
2) Currently, planning to give in December. I have relatively more free time right now in June - July. I might not be that much free during the rest of the months, because of college (I am an undergraduate student)
3) Haven't really decided on the specific Schools yet. But in short, I would really want to go the Top 10 schools.

Hi Aryan18,

Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so starting your studies now - far in advance of a planned December Test Date - is a smart choice.

Since you have some study materials already, the logical next step would be for you to work through those materials. I still highly recommend that you take a practice CAT/mock - so we can define your current skills, strengths and weaknesses. AND you should plan to take CATs at regular intervals (so that we can gauge how effective your studies are), instead of just at the 'end' of your studies.

I was planning to get the Verbal concepts in place first. Particularly because CR is something that is completely new to me (a little intimidated by it too) and I also need to brush up on some grammar topics for SC. I have been reading Economics/Business-related books and magazines on a daily basis to gain some momentum for RC as well. I have completed about 95% of the Magoosh SC content already.

For the Quant part, I already know a major portion of the topics and I also know which topics might be a bit difficult for me (for example, Inequalities). I am working on improving my calculation speed right now.

So, in a way, I already know my strengths and weaknesses a bit, but yeah I will try to take out some time and attempt a diagnostic CAT for sure.

PS:- Thanks a lot for your contribution to the GMAT Community, Rich :D
