Thanks GmatKnightTutor. I've reached out to these schools and now waiting for their response.

I'm a beginner in GMAT and thoroughly confused between taking the old and the new edition since I'm not sure whether these universities will consider the GMAT Focus score given that they only mention "GMAT" score on their admission criteria.

Consider reaching out to the schools you mentioned. Both versions may be acceptable by the time you apply, for example. May want to check out the differences between both versions and the end date for the current version of the GMAT as well. All the best with the prep.

Appreciate the insight, bb. Also, are there any common topics/subjects in these two editions that I can start until these schools respond back?

If these universities are planning to shut down or no longer require Test scoresthen they would likely not accept GMAT Focus.

However if they planning to take applicants who took a test after February 2024, then they will have to go through the monumental effort of updating their website and adding the word “focus” to help people feel more at ease. But chances are they may not update the website. They probably did not add “online” to the GMAT either is my guess making a blanket statement instead.

While the effort of website modifications can be substantial, and likelihood of closing their doors is always there, I think it would be quite logical to assume (with a degree that the assumption may prove false) that for the sake of continuity, posterity and humanity, GMAT Focus test scores will be accepted as soon as it is a ailable.

Hi all!

I'm looking forward to take GMAT by end of January as I'm planning for an MBA program starting in September 2024 (class of 2025) in the one of the private German universities (Mannheim Business School, WHU Otto, and Frankfurt SF&M).

I'm a beginner in GMAT and thoroughly confused between taking the old and the new edition since I'm not sure whether these universities will consider the GMAT Focus score given that they only mention "GMAT" score on their admission criteria.

Any advice is welcome.

Thanks in advance!

The two additions are pretty much identical from the standpoint of material.

The main and only differences are. Here is how Focus differs from Classic:

- Removal of sentence correction question section in its entirety.
- removal of regular Geometry knowledge
- removal of the essay
- questions got mixed slightly differently. Now data sufficiency is mingled with integrated reasoning questions to form a new section called data insights.

As you can see in general, all the materials concepts and what you need to study largely remains the same besides sentence correction and Geometry getting cut out of the new test.

Hi mrfrantic,

I imagine that your desired schools will accept GMAT focus, but it's good you reached out to them just to be on the safe side.
