The following appeared in an article in a consumer-electronics magazine:
"Company X's latest model of digital camera to be released next month, the TR12, is being promoted as the most portable, user-friendly digital camera available, and also an excellent bargain. It can be expected to live up to these claims, because Company X's previous model, the TR11, was universally lauded as setting the standard in these areas last year."
Discuss how well reasoned ...........
The magazine article states that the Company X is claiming their latest model camera-TR12- is most portable, use-friendly digital camera available and will be sold at an excellent bargain. Magazine subtantiates this claim by stating that the company's previous camera model-TR11-set the standard in these areas. The calims of the magazine may not be accurate enough and seems to be biased towards the Company's camera models and are falwed in many aspects.
The magazine is quoting the comapany's claim that the new camera model to be the most portable becuase its predecessor set standards universally . However, after realse of the TR 11 model, may manufacturers, seeing this models's sales volume, might have copied the design aspects and most likely would have improved in their own version. Moreover portability of the camera depends on user to user and there is no likely universal standard. Just because the company is claiming that the new model is most portable need not be true once it is finally released in the market and user gets a hands own experience. Magazine also fails to mention the other ccompanies comparable camera models that were released after release of TR11 model camera.
Magazine futher states it will be best user-friendly digital camera available to the end user. However, user friendliness of the camera depends on how the user acutally using it preceives it. For example, many of the computer OS, like Windows Vista, have failed to impress users even after getting a big make over from its previos version, Windows XP and the company has claimed windows Vista to be best in class before its release. The user friendliness of the OS finally burns down to the user satisfaction regarding speed of the system, the features it provides and the shortcuts / accessories it has.
Company X is claiming that the camera TR12 will be an excellent bargain. However, magazine has failed to substantiate this claim with the market price of the company's already seeling camera TR11 and with the market price of various other companies which are releasing camera at competent prices. Magazine is blindly stating that since Model TR11 was an ideal entry and universally lauded, TR12 also will follow the suit which might not be the case provided many companies would have copied the market strategy and would have release better product or would be planning to release better product at cheaper rates.
The magazine is blindly stating that Company X claims on its new model TR12 will be met as it previous model sold well in market. However, the magazine has not substantitated its claims with further evidence as to what other camera manufacturers has done and how TR12 is better of all the other models that are currently available in the market. Magazine also fails to take into account that factors like user friendliness and portability shall be judged only once the model is released in the market. Thus the statement by the magazine has various flaws in it.
