Hi,

I found myself in a similar situation.
During official mock trials, I was consistent in Quant / Verb. Obtaining an overall score of 700 +/- 10.
I did my first GMAT Online on Sept 2020. I re-took it last week. The scores were 640 and 650, respectively. Exactly the same V score (35) on both exams. I was shocked with the first exam. But seeing the second score, I can only but confirm my incredulity with these results.
GMAC doesn't offer ESR. So the possibility to review their At-Home version is non-existent.
We could spend weeks debating whether preparation is sufficient, if one was nervous during the test, and plenty other factors in the realm of hypothesis. With no objective means to contrast the answer pool and grading system of the GMAT online vs the GMAT in-centre, I would be very interested to see results of various GMAT professional testers undergo the online version and publish their scores so the community can properly assess the various observations I have seen in this thread (and in other forums dealing with GMAT).

I took the exam today and faced the same thing. Quant was way too tough than any of the offical mocks. I've taken mocks by Veritas, Kaplan and Manhattan yet never have I found quant to be that difficult. Searching on the forum for similar situation lead me here. What about you guys, did you take the in-centre test and get a better score? Or atleast was it a easier pool of questions compared to the online GMAT?

I also had similar craziness - mock has been 670 - 710 - GMAT online 560 (2nd attempt and 1st attempt is 640)- I know I have a bit of a tiredness and anxiety during this time round and may not be performing well on quant - but in my 2nd attempt, I am pretty sure my verbal is super okay (to the point I am afraid verbal would be too good that make it looks bad) - but never drop this far..

well, it is somehow a relieve (somewhat) that my 2nd attempt was a foregone conclusion. Still cant understand my verbal drop to 31 - typically 36-40 on average- never drop below 35.. so yup.. not so sure. cant do anything. cant do any ESR - it is a black hole with endless possibilities - let's just close it and move on I guess..

Hearing these stories makes me all kinds of worried. Is the online experience that much harder?

The reality is that people are not good judges of their performance... and it is deceiving. I was thrown off about my performance too. I felt I was failing every question.

As to scores, we have had people take tests back to back and have not found that much difference.

However, there are a number of these stories that flare up now and then.... but then during the same period you ha r people taking the test score perfectly fine.

I personally do not believe that there is a systemic hardship or difference. There could be discrepancies in scores - they always exist in every test and GMAT published it for years. But I don’t think they made the exam more draconian...
