Hi ScottTargetTestPrep
Yes, there is a solid reason.

My test center (only in my country) is almost 14hrs to 3 days (if there is a jam due to landslides in various places) to travel away from my place.
Can I cover that CCTV camera with some clothes or any other way? Or set up my laptop so that the computer screen does not face the camera directly.

Hi Mck2023,

Is there a reason why you can't take the in-person GMAT?

This may be problematic. One thing the GMAC is probably very keen to avoid is LIVE questions being recorded.

It’s a gamble. I nothing scares GMAC like a camera staring at the screen.

If you’re going to try to take the test, I would definitely sit so that the laptop does not face it. Covering it with some thing it’s only going to attract more attention to it. Like a big bulge on the ceiling that does not look suspicious at all 😂

Also note, if someone else enters the room, your test will get canceled. So if you’re going to take it in the office, do it on the weekend when no one would be there. Another option is to rent a hotel room or an office or some thing for four hours.

See whether you can remove the camera from the room for the duration of your exam. If it is a small device, it may "clip off" quite easily.

Hi bb
How do they manage to have flawless internet in test center? And, can you please give me some more options where I can take exam without internet issues?

They don’t really need flawless Internet at the test center because the system works differently at the test center but there is such a thing as a reliable Internet that is available in many western countries and unfortunately can be a challenge in some of the more remote parts of the world… Would mobile connection be an option such as a hotspot?

Are you in India? In a remote part of Himachal or Uttarakhand perhaps?

To take the exam in your cubicle-
- Arrange to take the exam out of office hours. A Sunday will be good.
- Clear the cubicle. Remove all the files. Pile them up outside somewhere
- Remove the camera if possible. If that's not possible, cover it with a thick opaque black cloth. And show it to the proctor.

I am planning to take GMAT online this July. I do not have stable internet at home, as electricity is cut off quite randomly and frequently. Hence, I have decided to take exam at Office, where the internet is flawless.
Hi Mck2023,

Is your internet not stable, or is it not stable because of power cuts? If it's the power situation that's a problem, you could look at getting some kind of power backup. If you're using a laptop with a good battery, even a small (tiny, 6000-8000 mAh) UPS for just your network device would be enough as long as your internet service provider has power backup for its own infrastructure.

I don't recommend taking the test in a room with a camera in it. Even if the proctor somehow misses it, your exam could be cancelled later on, and the penalties include testing bans. That is, if you're caught for something like this, they won't let you take either the online or regular GMAT again for at least a few years.

Hi bb
The GMAC says not to use mobile phone, but as you have written in one post that the proctor do know whether its wifi or hotspot, I assume I can use mobile hotspot. But the problem is, mobile network is not reliable either. I think the best option would be to remove the camera or take the test in a hotel room. What do you say?

Hi Arun,
Power cuts is the major issue. I will think about using UPS. Thank you.

Got it. Maybe give the folks at GMAC a call to discuss the situation in detail.

Got it. The hotel plan could also work, though my experience with hotel internet hasn't always been the best. :)
