Hi. First of all, I am terribly sorry about this experience. It doesn’t seem anyone should be taking a test in such conditions and having to wait and address numerous problems.

I would definitely file a complaint to try to get a free retest. The challenge is that the exam has technically been taken rather than a failed and it’s always more challenging to convince GMAC and giving a free read test when you actually finish the test. Most testtakers end up doing what you did, they keep trying to take the test but at some point you just have to back out and realize that it’s better to bail and take it another day. I know not everyone has the benefit of time and I know that it’s very painful to Bell but unfortunately the system is very problematic at times 😢

Experts please help-i'm devastated. What are my options?
Hi Sachinpri,

Slightly different opinion here. I recommend that you push for a full refund, not a free retake (if your exam was supposed to start at 0900, there's no way that an 1150 start was fair). Take the regular (test-center) GMAT if you can.

Hi.
First of all thanks everyone for taking the time out to reply.
Customer care created a ticket for the issue and told it might take 5-20 business days to get a an update :(

Should I wait for a reply or book my retest?Any suggestions?
(PS:in case a retake is offered,do I have to give the online exam again or can I appear for the test center? Can someone clarify please?)
Thanks

Hi Sachinpri,

As far as I know, you can't switch modes if you're offered a free retake (the regular and the online GMAT exams are delivered by different companies). You should, of course, reach out to their customer service team and verify this. You can wait for their response if you don't need (or want) to take the exam again very soon. On the other hand, if you think you're at or near your "peak", you may want to retake ASAP.

All the best.

Practically, you will not be able to retake online for 15 days since your last test. Since the appointments are often available within a day or two, you should probably expect and plan to retake and hopefully your retake voucher opportunity will be available around that time.

So far, historically, if you got a voucher to retake the online test, you had to take it online and you could not switch to a test center so if you’re planning to retake the test at a test center, which I understand why, you can schedule it 24 hours out. You don’t actually have to wait for 15 days.

So, if you’re planning to take a test Center, you may as well go ahead and schedule unless you need a few more days.

Might be worth sending an additional email, mentioning you specifically want a refund.

Sorry for the delay in updating.

tl;dr:issue addressed within 48 hrs,refund received

Got my refund today.

Sent an initial mail to GMAC customer care describing my issue in detail on Sunday(test day).

Followed it up with multiple reminders on Monday and Tuesday and multiple calls to their US customer care number.

Although I hadn't mentioned in my initial email about a refund,I made it clear through calls to customer care and reminder mails that I was not interested in retaking GMAT online and wanted a refund.

On Tuesday night I got a mail from customer care in which they provided me with an online refund voucher😐. immediately called customer care and told them i wasn't interested in that. The exec told me he could provide me with a test center voucher which would be valid till 30th may.i told him that wouldnt work because I was planning to give the test in June and I had asked for a refund in subsequent mails. He took a minute to check something and said he would process the refund.:)

The issue got resolved in 48 hrs and I got the refund today.I guess multiple reminders and calls worked for me.

Planning to take the regular GMAT on June 2nd week.

It's good to see that they processed this quickly.

All the best for the retake in June.
