Hi mrustagi,
The At-home GMAT is a bit more 'palatable' of an option at this point because you are now allowed to use a physical notepad. However, many GMATers have reported technical issues with their Exams and the 'format' of the Test is "fixed" (Quant, then Verbal - with no break in-between, then an optional 5-minute break, then IR). Having to take Quant and Verbal in one sitting is challenging for most GMATers (especially if you've been taking your CATs with an 8-minute break between sections). If you want to take the At-home GMAT, then you will have to be really rigorous about how you take your CATs going forward (and take them in the exact same fashion in which you will have to take the At-home GMAT).
At this point, Schools all seem fine with the concept of the At-home Exam - and no School or Program has voiced any major concerns about comparing that Score to a traditional result from a Test Facility nor that the At-home GMAT does not include an AWA/essay portion. Obviously, there's no way to know if that perspective might change in the future though. All things considered, if you apply at some point within the next 5 years and you are a strong overall applicant who took the At-home GMAT (and scored well on it), then I would assume that a School would not "look down" on your application because Covid-19 may have essentially 'forced' you to take the At-home GMAT.
Before I can offer you any additional advice for your studies, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:
Studies:
1) How long have you studied? How many hours do you typically study each week?
2) What study materials have you used so far?
3) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
Goals:
4) What is your overall goal score?
5) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
6) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?
