I might be a bit countercultural on this thread, but I think that it makes sense to take the GMAT Focus edition. In your applications, you want to give yourself every opportunity to put your best elements forward. The simple fact of the matter is that a vast majority of applicants applying with you will have taken the GMAT Focus.
Despite nostalgia for the old GMAT, the Focus Edition creates a lot more separation and increments at the higher level, makes 700+ scores more elite and includes data insights in its overall scoring. All that aligns closer to what AdComs are going to care about -- so naturally it will carry more weight (maybe not officially, but in the unregulated minds of admissions team members).
