Hi PigsFly2020,

To start, I would not say you are doing anything wrong actually. You've managed to improve from 550 to 640 in just 9 weeks, so great job so far. Regarding how to move forward, I’m happy to provide some advice but I’d first like to learn more about your situation with the GMAT. Once you respond to the questions already asked, I can provide some advice. In the meantime, here is a helpful article for you to check out.

Hi! I finished the 9 week course with Manhattan Prep. I have been studying every day for 2-3 hours, keeping an error log, and have read through all the Manhattan Prep guides. On my first Manhattan Prep CAT, I scored 550. Then I went up to 590, and my last Manhattan Prep CAT was 620 (42Q, 33 V). I heard from many people that Manhattan Prep was harder so I took the GMAT Prep exam today. I only scored a 640. I got more questions right, had less wrong in a row, and still only got a 640 (40Q, 38V). At this point I'm very confused because I've been doing all the prep that I've been told to do and I just don't get what the problem is. My teacher said that you can even miss 11 question and get 700+ and I literally missed 12 in the quant. I felt the GMAT Prep exam was not only easier, I felt more confident. I see all these posts about people doing Manhattan Prep and then scoring 730 and I've been doing all the practice and studying and don't see the results. Did anyone else see any score discrepancies? What about experiences with Manhattan Prep?> >

Hi PigsFly2020,

First of all, number of questions is not the right measure to assess your score. GMAT algorithm is a lot more complex and adaptive. So, the score depends on how you perform on individual quarters. You can go through the recording below to understand how GMAT algorithm works.

The study strategy:

I'm only considering your official mock score because that's the most reliable mock. Your verbal score is decent but there's a lot of scope for improvement in Quant section. Q40 suggests that there are still some conceptual gaps and you are highly struggling with the application of concepts.

Before suggesting you the plan of action, I would like to know what did you find the reason for making mistakes when you analyzed your mocks. Were they because of conceptual gaps or because of some other reason? Answer to this will help me understand your concerns better and guide you in a better way. You can write back to me here or a better way would be to discuss the same over a call. You can get in touch with me using the below link.

It's possible to get quite a few wrong and still end up with a Q49 on Quant, but it depends on the types of questions to a certain extent. It may be helpful to read how the GMAC algorithm works (or may work to be more precise).
