I just took the downloaded test at gmat.org and got a 42 and 46 for a score of 720. However, it said I missed 16 quant. and 9 verbal. Can this score be right? Thanks

Yes - the score is not determined by the number of questions you get correct or incorrect but by the relative difficulty of the questions you attempt. Remember - the GMAT is adaptive - the only way it can identify your "banding" is by throwing questions of increasing difficulty until you get one wrong.
