I took GMAT Prep #2 this weekend for the first time taking this test. I scored a 660 with a 46Q and a 35V. On the quant section, I was pretty consistent, but missed 6 of the last 7 questions (I missed the last 5 in a row). On the Verbal section, I missed 4 in a row (questions #2-5). From what I can tell, I was probably penalized significantly for the 6 that were missed on the quant section and definitely penalized for the verbal. I only missed 6 other questions on the verbal section and they were spread out. I read the (un) scientific thread on gmat prep and it seems like this might be the case. Can someone please confirm. I have been aiming for a 700 and it seems that if I hadn't run out of time on the last few Q questions and had gotten maybe one or two right of the questions 2-5, then I may have been close, or had reached the 700 mark.

You are correct. Missing consecutive questions lowers your overall "band" of difficulty.
The good news is you re 2 points in Q and 3 points in V from a 700+. A 48/38 is the 80+ percentile in both sections which will boost you over the 700 mark.
