GMAT Prep- does this practice score seem off to you?

Question

I sit for the real deal on Monday, and finally took the GMAT Prep test #1 today to try and focus my last-ditch effort over the weekend, and check my timing. I got 25/37 on quant, 37/41 on verbal, and it told me my overall score was a 740 . Really? :shock:

That just doesn't seem right to me... that I could miss 12 questions in quant (am going to focus on DS this weekend- yikes!) and get a score that high? Is that verbal good enough to pull me up that much? Any insight? I don't want to get my hopes up!

it is weird like that. The test is dependent on the difficulty of the questions not the number you got wrong... you probably couldve gotten lower score if you had fewer wrongs if those were easy ones you missed.

OK, so that seems like it could be a feasible score? I'm just shocked that I could miss that many and it would still put me in the 97th percentile... but I'll take it!

The types of questions you miss are much more important than the raw number. The whole point of the CAT is to get you to the difficulty level where you miss roughly 1/2 of the questions (your "true" level).

Sailorette, congrats on your score! One of the most common misconceptions about the GMAT is that you need to get all the questions right. The difficulty of the questions you answer matters a lot more in context than the number of questions you answer.

yeah dont worry about how many you get wrong since every test taker has to have the goal of "getting every single question right" in mind since the screen isn't moving till you submit your answer. Fix the ones you get wrong is important since you got quite a few wrong. This wouldve been a "disaster" if those questions you got wrong counter a lot more.

Nice trial run, Sailorette! I was in the very same situation a few months ago. My practice tests were a 740 and then a 750. My real GMAT score was a 730. Sometimes I still can't believe any of my results.

As people have already mentioned, it's not about the number of incorrect questions per se, but which questions you get incorrect. I have also read that verbal scores tend to decrease more quickly than quant scores do.

You will miss several questions no matter what your score. That is the whole idea of the adaptive test keeping you right at the edge of what it thinks is your ability.

The fewer there are like you, the higher your score.
