given x,y > 1
1. by plugging in values into y like 2,3 or 10 then we can see that x is a multiple of y.
also the expression when simplified is y (3y +7) = x which is a multiple of y
Hence suff
2. here we have x^2 - x is a multiple of y i.e x(x-1) is a multiple of y.
if we consider y =3 and x =10 then 10* 9 =90 is a multiple of 3 (i.e. y) but x alone is not a multiple of y
similarly if x = 9 then 9*8 = 72 is a multiple of 3 and x is a multiple of y. hence insuff
will go with A

The best way to approach this problem is to plug in to verify if either statement consistently holds true.
Note that this is a YES/NO question, so even if one statement proves that s is NOT a multiple of y it is still sufficient.
Answer: A.
