Hi Mck2023,

A 530 is a decent initial CAT score (the average score on the Official GMAT hovers around 550 most years). Unfortunately, the fact that you waited 6 months to take this initial CAT means that you're going to have to adjust your timeline a bit. Raising a 530 to the point that you can consistently score 720+ will likely require at least another 3 months of consistent, guided study - and you'll have to make significant improvements to how you handle BOTH the Quant and Verbal sections. Thankfully, the GMAT is a consistent, predictable Exam, so you CAN train to score at a higher level.

I can't recall whether we've discussed your broader goals or not, so I'd like to know a bit more about your timeline and plans:

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?

Hi EMPOWERgmatRichC

Thank You for the response.
Let me answer your question now;

1) When are you planning to apply to Business School?
I am now sure on that. Actually I have not researched on Business School selection yet. I need to work a lot on that. However, I am pity much inclined towards MSF from USA or MIM from UK, but want to settle in Australia. So, i again have to post with all my confusions here. I request you to make me clear in this aspect as well. You may want to know that I am from Nepal, while analyzing my suggestion.

2) What Schools are you planning to apply to?
Similar to above. Not sure yet.

3) Going forward, how many hours do you think you can consistently study each week?
I am actually jobless right now. So have a full month (or more) to prepare, so I can give 5 hours (or more if needed) daily. After that, I can still give at least 3 hours daily.

SO, only thing that is troubling me now is making a detailed study plan, that will help me achieve 720. I am hopeful that you will guide me!!!
Thank You.

Best

Hi Mck2023,

The process of applying to (and ultimately attending) Business School will require a big investment of time, money and energy on your part, so you really should make sure that the Programs that you apply to match your career goals/needs. There are a variety of factors that go into selecting the Schools that you will apply to, so here are some other things to think about:

1) Is there a particular company that you want to work for or industry that you want to work in? Certain degrees are more appropriate than others if you have a specific career goal.
2) What do you want your MBA to do for you?
3) Do you want to go to School full-time or part-time?
4) Are you willing to relocate? Are you comfortable with working through a program that is primarily online?
5) Are you going to be applying for scholarships?
Etc.

It's okay if you don't have answers to any of these questions just yet, but you really should try to define all of the important variables in terms of your goals, so that you can tailor your entire approach to getting into the best School that matches what you're looking for.

Since you are not facing an immediate application deadline, you do not have to 'rush in' to take your Official GMAT in 2 months. If you think that you truly "need" a 720+ to get into School, then THAT Goal has to come first - and you need to give yourself enough time to hone the necessary skills to earn that type of Score. By extension, you would likely find it beneficial to invest in a GMAT Course of some type (either Guided Self-Study or instructor-led), so you should plan to look into the available options. Most GMAT Companies offer some type of free materials (practice problems, Trial Accounts, videos, etc.) that you can use to 'test out' a product before you buy it. We have a variety of those resources at out site (www.empowergmat.com). I suggest that you take advantage of all of them then choose the one that best matches your personality, timeline and budget.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich
