Hello everyone!
I just started my gmat preparation this month. I'm a bit slow in both quant and verbal. For example, it took me 6 hours to solve and comprehend a critical reasoning weakening problem. I made good result in my graduation, but I had to spend more hours compared with my peers. Is GMAT will be a good idea for an average students? Can I have suggestions regarding this test?

regards,
Samen Bhuyan

Being slow is not a bad thing if you are steady as well. Studying extra hours, you managed good results, and you can do the same in the GMAT test as well. You can read stories of lots of average students who aced the targeted score. You can do several things to have good preparation for GMAT. First of all, the Manhattan prep strategy guides must help with all the concepts required for the test. Besides, you should go through the GMAT official guides giving you the savor of the real test.

You can find free video solutions of quant problems from https://gmatquantum.com/official-guides/og13/ , and for verbal you can see the solution of experts from the GMAT Club.

Empower GMAT is a superb online course for GMAT, and You can use the Empower GMAT course. It is a comprehensive course for SC, RC and CR as well.
This online platform will support you a lot and offers more video lessons. You can see the trial version and decide.

Curriculum for GMAT does not match our regular academics curriculum , so it is ok to take so many hours in the beginning. Key is hat you should improve over time.
Start you preparation and see where you stand after a month. Keep a check

Hi Samen,

It sounds like you're just starting out. Is that true? How much studying have you done so far?

If you're just beginning, then it would be a good idea to take a FULL-LENGTH practice CAT Test; you can access 2 for free from www.mba.com (and they come with some additional practice materials). If you want to do a bit of practice first, so that you can familiarize yourself with the general content and question types first, then that's fine - but you shouldn't wait too long to take that initial CAT. A FULL CAT takes about 3.5 hours to complete, so make sure that you've set aside enough time to take it in one sitting. Once you have those scores, you should report back here and we can come up with a study plan.

I'd also like to know a bit more about your timeline and goals:
1) What is your goal score?
2) When are you planning to take the GMAT?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School?

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi samenbg20,

Since you seem to be just starting out with your GMAT prep, I really would not worry about timing. Right now, work at your own pace and focus on accuracy. Also, don’t sell yourself short! As long as you follow linear and structured study plan as well as a realistic timeline, then you CAN improve your GMAT quant and verbal skills. Certainly, if you need detailed advice on how to do so, feel free to reach out. Lastly, you may find it helpful to read the following articles:
