3.... An easy on :)

You never say doubling or double... correct is to say twice...

hence you have only two options... D and E

in E... increase of the previous year is wrong... increase in is correct...

Hence D....

in this fragment..... 'expect automakers,......., to set dividends more conservatively than they were' means that dividends should be set more conservatively than the automakers... this is wrong as the author means.. that the dividends should be set more conservatively.. than they were previously set.

Hence A & B are out...

D and E... have excess of pronouns and this makes it quite difficult to understand their antecedents.. more over pronouns should only be used when necessary!

C gives the correct picture... and hence is the answer.... it correctly identifies the comparison!

5... based on parallelism...

should be including.. hence A ,B,C are out..

between D & E...

E says including the establishing of.... which is wrong.. it should have been.. including the establishment of.. hence E is out..

Therefore answer is D....

As you said, this is the easy one. This is the place where most people like you and me make a mistake.
OA in this case is A. I googled for the solution and by far, this is the best solution which I have found..

I realized that the answers in Manhattan GMAT forums are really good if the questions are from GMATPrep.
I would recommend it to everyone who has doubts in GMATPrep.
If we have doubts in GMATPrep, we can search in the below mentioned URL.
The reason, I am recommending it is because I gained a lot from this. We can get some rules from them which can be applied..
The explanation is really good and that would drive the point home.
Please check the URL:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/gmat-prep-verbal-f31.html

For this question too, I would suggest you to read the below url. An important concept is mentioned here:
https://www.manhattangmat.com/forums/post35595.html?hilit=Despite%20recent%20increases%20in%20sales#p35595

If we read the question in OG Q.87, we have a similar question.
We can have a blind rule here too that has been mentioned:
whenever you use a parallel structure with omitted/elided words, the EXACT omitted word(s) MUST be present, IN PARALLEL STRUCTURE, elsewhere in the sentence. this means in exactly the same form - no alterations, no tense changes, no nothing.

I have my exam on Monday.. Any suggestions/advice would be welcome.
