Dear friends,
Hi i am Siddharth from India.I have just completed my Chartered Accountancy Course from Institute of Chartered Accountants of India. I intend to take my GMAT exam. I'll be starting from scratch so how much time will it take to prepare myself for giving it my best shot.

hey buddy, the time required depends a lot on
1) what's ur current level..u can gauge urself by taking a GMAT prep exam.
2) how high u want to score from ur current level.
3) the distraction in ur life...obviously a lot depends upon how much time in a day/week, u can devote...
4) Schools ur looking at...based on their average scores, u would like to score a little higher than the average one..

Note that this is the best indicator of your current level. If you are not familiar with the test, the chances are, you are not going to do well because you are probably unaware of major breakdown of the test and strategies to do well.

I would recommend you to get a set of prep books (I recommend Manhattan GMAT Guides) and start from there. I would not recommend you to take the test without getting to know the basics of the test but some people scored incredibly well on their first try. It is your call.

Use this forum as much as possible because it is extremely useful. Read posts under thread "Share you GMAT experience" because people there talk about how they preformed on the test and what were the good and bad things. It is kind of hard to explain everything to you in one post, so simply start reading posts in this thread, as well as the one I previously mentioned. Good Luck :wink:

You should budget at least 1 month of actual studying and maybe another 1 month of psychological preparation.

Start off with a diagnostic from mba.com and then get a sense of the different questions. See where you problem areas are and if you need any additional help.

The most cost effective way is to focus on the highest quality prep materials from the GMAT makers themselves:
1) GMAT Prep software
2) Official Guide 11th or 12th edition is fine

If you want more practice, you can use OG Verbal review and Quant review books

The GMAT verbal is arguably more important to your score than GMAT quant as described in this article: https://www.gmatpill.com/the-gmat-pill-m ... -strategy/

Of the GMAT verbal sections, SC is the easiest to improve and RC is probably the section that will take the longest time to improve. These RC videos may help.

Some people recommend reading the NY Times. While that may be beneficial in the long run, it's unlikely that reading NYTimes will actually help boost your score in a few weeks. Focus on keywords in the passage so you know when you should really pay attention and when you can "skim" parts of a paragraph. This is almost an art rather than a science and takes time to develop.
