Hi,

I have scheduled my GMAT test on 6th June, 2016. Mentioned below are the scores of two mocks I have taken:

1. Official GMAT
Q- 49, V-34

2. The economist (Left the last question in Verbal section by mistake. The timer was not visible once you scroll down)
O-49 V-31

All the analysis points out SC as my weakest area. I have thoroughly completed OG twice and have gone through Manhattan SC module. I have also used scholaranium of E-GMAT to practice individual areas. I am comfortable with individual topics but always miss out on tiny details while solving SC questions in a mock. I think I must go through the basics once more. Should I go through manhattan SC book or try the online videos of GMATPrepNow. My aim is to get Q-50/51 V-40/41. Thank you

Hi nihalsaket,

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you're looking for, I'd like to know a bit more about how you've studied so far:

1) How long have you studied?
2) What materials have you used?
3) Did you take the FULL CAT each time (with the Essay and IR sections)?

These two CAT scores are remarkably consistent, which means that you do certain things consistently well, but you also make certain consistent mistakes. To raise your score to a V40+, you're going to have to learn/practice some new Tactics. With a June 6th Test Date, you have about 3 weeks of study time remaining - so you'll have to be efficient with your studies to hit that score goal.

Hi Rich,

Thank you for the prompt response.

1. I have studied for GMAT about 50 days. I had some exposure to critical reasoning and reading comprehension prior to my GMAT preparation but sentence correction was fairly new for me.

2. Materials Used:
BOOKS
a. Manhattan GMAT - SC, RC and CR module
b. GMAT Official Guide - 2015
c. GMAT Official Guide (Verbal Review) - 2015

ONLINE RESOURCES
a. E-GMAT free videos (Sentence Correction)
b. E-GMAT scholaranium (For section wise practice)

At present, I am focusing only on verbals. For quant, I just solve the OG questions.

3. Tests
a. Official GMAC test - Full (Including Essay and Integrated Reasoning) - I did not attempt integrated reasoning sincerely.
b. The Economist - Verbal and Quant - AWA is not available

What I feel is that I am not doing well in SC questions and am a bit slow in RCs. I will try to explain the sectional split of my mistakes in verbal.

a. GMAC Official Test 1
Total incorrect (Verbal) - 13 (SC - 10, CR - 2, RC - 1)

b. The Economist Mock GMAT
Total incorrect (Verbal) - 10 (SC - 8, CR - 2, RC - 0)

Awaiting your response.

Hi nihalsaket,

To perform at a high level on SCs, you'll need a combination of knowledge (grammar and idiom rules), style ('meaning' of a sentence) and Tactics (knowing the common 'patterns' that the GMAT Tests, the common errors, etc.). Since you've already done a certain amount of SC practice already, but you're still getting so many SCs wrong, it's likely that your current methods for dealing with SCs are somehow incomplete. As such, you might need to retrain for that area of the Verbal section with some new practice materials and Tactics.
