Hi Everyone,
I have never posted any comments on any forum before and this is my first. I've been reading a lot of the comments posted on the GMAT Club forums and I have found tons of helpful tips. My goal is to take the GMAT in 3 months and I am following the tips that were layed out by GMAT founder BB in his GMAT Study Plans for novice GMAT testers.
I followed BB's advice by taking the Official practice test before any GMAT preparations to see my baseline score. I had my worst testing experience ever in my entire life. I decided to take the practice test yesterday. I skipped the AWA simulation and went straight to the Quantitative section. I was not able to answer any of these math questions. When I got to questions #28 in this section I realized that I could NOT have gotten more than 4 of these questions correct. Therefore, I just ended the test to save myself from further depression and misery.
I want to give some information on my background. I have a B.S. in Accounting and I'm a CPA. I realized that my undergraduate studies, CPA examination, and work experience does not offer me any practice to these math fundamentals. I have not performed any of these math functions since high school and I'm so used to having a scientific calculator as a tool in my everyday life. Based on my failures and deficiencies in the practice test, I am seriously wondering if I have any chance in getting a high score on the GMAT?
I'm going to use this practice test relevation as an rude awakening experience. I have the 4th edition
Manhattan GMAT 8 study guides and the OG 11th editions as my study materials. I will really need to dedicate my life for the next 3 months to relearn all these math and verbal concepts in order to even stand a chance with this GMAT.
So here are my biggest questions:
1) Has anyone every failed this miserably on the practice test before (without every cracking open any GMAT study guides)? I'm guessing my score would have been 150 out 800 if I had finished the GMAT practice test. I'm specifically inquiring those with a business/accounting backgrounds (I'm assuming Engineers will not experience these math deficiencies). Also if your answer is yes, then what were you able to score on your actual GMAT test after months of preparation?
2) Is 3 months enough time to prepare for the GMAT and score a 700 given my weaknesses?
I would really appreciate any feedback. I am currently super depressed and in total awe-shocked from this practice test. Today will be Day 1 of my GMAT preparations. Thank you very much!"
