Hi kkim817,

First off, a 660/Q44 is a solid Score, so it could be enough to get you into your first-choice School. As such, a retest might not be necessary. Depending on the specific Programs that you plan to apply to, you would likely find it beneficial to speak with an Admissions Expert about your overall profile and plans. Those Experts should be able to answer your Admissions questions and help define the specific areas of your profile that could use some improvement. There's a Forum full of those Experts here:

https://gmatclub.com/forum/ask-admissio ... tants-124/

Many GMATers spend 3 months (or more) of consistent study time before they hit their 'peak' scores, so it's likely that you just have not put in enough time and effort to score consistently higher yet. If you were typically scoring above 700 on your CATs/mocks though, then it's worth noting that when these types of score drops occur, the two likely "causes" involve either something that was unrealistic during practice or something that was surprising (or not accounted for) on Test Day. Before we discuss any of those potential issues though, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) Over the last 1.5 months, how many hours did you typically study each week?
2) On what dates (or approximate dates) did you take EACH of your CATs/mocks and how did you score on EACH (including the Quant and Verbal Scaled Scores for EACH)?
3) What Schools are you planning to apply to and what application deadlines are you facing?

If you took your Official GMAT at a Test Center, then you might also choose to purchase the Enhanced Score Report. While the ESR doesn’t provide a lot of information, there are usually a few data points that we can use to define what went wrong on Test Day (and what you should work on to score higher). If you purchase the ESR, then I'll be happy to analyze it for you.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Hi kkim817,

You have chosen some good resources. When you solve OG problems, you can see solutions to them on the GMAT club. For quant, I see video solutions to OG problems from the link: https://gmatquantum.com/official-guides/

The link might be useful for you.

Good Luck!

I have come to this forum to seek advice, suggestions, and tips to improve my GMAT score for a retake I have scheduled 05/04/22. I hope to find the most effective ways to study in the time allotted.

I. Background and Context

I took my first GMAT on 4/06/22 (last week) and I received a 660 (V37, Q44).

About a month and a half ago, I decided to apply for Master of Accounting programs. I studied while working, and my preparation was lacking to say the least. It had been years since I have studied anything, and my concentration and motivation started to wane under a false sense of security that I could do decently on the exam (I was getting 700's on the GMAT Official practice tests).

I wouldn't consider retaking the test if I didn't have some amount of belief in my capability to do better, but I also know it's going to take a concentrated effort to almost guarantee a score increase on my retake. If I can manage even a 700, I would be more than satisfied. Anything more than that I would be cherry on top.

One thing to note is that my IR score was horrendous. I did little practice with IR, I'll admit, but on test day I performed well, well below what I could have. For some reason, I got stuck on a question and just turned my brain off, spending some ridiculous amount of time on it, and forced to just guess on the last several questions completely (I have no idea why I did this). I believe the factors that contributed to this was 1) Overall anxiety taking a standardized test 2) Break in focus/concentration due to my negative perception (although correct) of my performance in the previous verbal and quant sections 3) Lack of prep. This was another deciding factor in scheduling a retake.

I'm surprised I got a 6 on the essay. I don't even remember the topic nor what I wrote.

II. Available resources and resources I used leading up to first exam

The resources I used were:
1. Magoosh
2. OG 2020
3. OG Exams 3 & 4, 5 & 6 (each has the 1 reset left)

With Magoosh, I originally trudged through the quant lessons at 2x speed. I felt this was not an effective way to use the little time I had, so I dove into the OG practice questions and focused on solving all of the problems. I made the now obvious error of spending more time just solving problems rather than analyzing the mistakes I was making.

III. Resources I've added/available for the retake:

I have asked for time off from work and will be studying full time for the 3 weeks until the retake.

1. GMAT club tests (purchased)
2. OG 2022 (purchased)
3. Manhattan Prep books (2017)
4. OG 2017/OG 2018/Quant 2018/Verbal 2018
5. Any free resources I wasn't aware of/couldn't use because of time constraints

To reiterate, any and all advice, critique, tips, etc. are welcome. I simply wish to find the the most effective ways to optimize the amount of time I have to study. Thank you in advance to anyone that spent the time to read/respond!

Hi

The ideal thing would be to identify your weak areas and work on them. There's room for improvement in case of both Quant and Verbal. So, you have to analyze even the minute things and make sure to work on them. If you have an ESR, I can definitely help you in analyzing it. We can get in touch over a zoom conference call and we can analyze it together. This way we can figure out what exactly your weak areas are and then make a plan of action. You can use the below link to get in touch with me.
