Hi Everyone,
At the end of January I took my first GMAT and scored 560 Points. I am retaking the GMAT at the beginning of March with 18 days to go.
The Beginning:I started preparing in November, after not having done any math for several years. I started with the Kaplan GMAT Premier 2015. Regular hours every day for three months. Answered the questions in the book and realized I needed more material so I bought myself the complete Manhattan 6th Edition Pack and after finishing reading and doing all the examples in the Kaplan Book I switched to reading the
Manhattan books.
3 Months In: After the first 3 Months I went to the exam and left with 560 points (35Q/32% and 31V/61%). Timing wise I could have spent a little more time in Quant. Verbal was great. My weakness I can say is definitely Quant and SC. Now I am really unsure as to whether my strategy for the last seven days, that I thought of keeping for the remaining 18 days, is the best for me to get over 600 Points.
My Strategy: I took time off so that I could study more hours in the day.
For all OG Questions I keep an
Error Log where I keep track of the questions I failed and also note the reasons why.
From Monday to Wednesday and from Friday to Saturday I am doing:
1) 32 Timed Quant Questions + 29 to 30 (10SC/9-10RC/10CR) Verbal Questions.
2) Re-reading 4 Manhattan Chapters whilst going over the examples I struggled with in the past. Plus I also use the Manhattan online sheet that they provide with the purchase of the books that gives a set of questions for each book topic to go over, once mid book and once at you complete one book.
3) Reading one Chapter of SC every day and doing the examples, since I was really bad at SC.
4) Go over the flashcards I wrote whilst reading the
Manhattan books.
Thursdays and Sundays I use for review, I:
1) Do a Manhattan CAT test on Sundays
2) Go over my
Error Log and redo the OG problems (timed) I failed at + reviewing the ones I get wrong again
3) Review the chapters and their questions, from the
Manhattan books I read on previous days
4) Do further 32 timed Quantitative Questions (16 PS, 16DS)
In the last 7 days I want to focus only on revising rather than adding more OG questions to my
Error Log. I thought about just reviewing all the OG questions that will be in the
Error Log by then over and over again, whilst going over my flashcards and doing 1 Manhattan CAT test or even the one that GMAT provides for free.
OG Questions:Starting from PS question 60 or so it starts to get tough, by PS question 77 to 92 I got none right, some I could have solved with 2+ minutes but most of them I found though, although I realize they still test the same principles or knowledge.
DS is similar to PS only that I correctly answer slightly more questions.
CR and RC I am at around questions 40 for both, and so far only minor hiccups but overall 75 tp 85% correct.
SC: Also around Q40, always getting probably 40% or so wrong.
Questions:What do you think of my strategy, am I doing to much, too less?
Focusing to much on quantity and not quality?
If you have been in a similar situation (low 500, crossing into 600) or just happen to have good suggestions please share your thoughts and experiences with me.
Does anyone approximately know from the OG14 PS,DS,CR,SC,RC Questions, which questions belong roughly to which score range (400-500,500-600,600-700)?
I guess I want to know which range of questions for which sub area of the GMAT do I need to be striving towards in order to increase my chances to get 600-700?
I am spending probably 6 or more hours a day now going over the plan, but there is this lingering thought saying that perhaps I am doing to much and not focusing enough on quality study...
Cheers Everyone!
