Hi shrinks1234,

To start, a V42 is an outstanding Verbal performance - and if you scored that well once, then I suspect that you could re-hone those skills without too much trouble. Assuming that you can score in the V40+ range again, then you would not have to score that much higher in the Quant section to earn an overall Score of 730. That having been said, depending on the Schools that you plan to apply to and your Overall profile, a notably higher Quant Scaled Score might be needed.

Before I can offer you the specific advice that you’re looking for, it would help if you could provide a bit more information on how you've been studying and your goals:

1) How long are you planning to study before your next attempt (and how many hours do you think you will be able to consistently study each week?)?
2) What “brands” of CATs/mocks have you used during your prior studies?
3) When are you planning to apply to Business School and what Schools are you planning to apply to?

Since it's been approximately 1.5 years since you took the Official GMAT, the logical next step at this point would be for you to take a NEW, FULL-LENGTH CAT/mock. Make sure to take it in a realistic fashion that matches-up with what you will face when you take the Official GMAT (take the FULL CAT - with the Essay and IR sections, at the same time of day as when you'll take the Official GMAT, if you will be at a Test Facility, then wear a face mask, etc.). Once you have that Score, you should post back here (or you can feel free to PM me directly) and we can discuss the results and how you might best proceed with your studies.

GMAT assassins aren't born, they're made,
Rich

Q: What tutor(s) would you suggest or very solid “tailored” course would you recommend? Targeting 730+

I took the GMAT in Aug 2020 and scored a 680 (Q40, V42).
My initial cold score was mid 500s. I first used just the Manhattan books and OG, then examPAL (not a fan) then TTP (like it but man that was a lot of work). I was scoring consistent Q48s after TTP, but then I focused solely on verbal and got rusty on quant. Also I took the gmat online when it was pretty new and I hear the quant is a little different.
Anyway, I have all of my notes and flash cards and I think verbal would come back to me much quicker than quant.
I am willing to spend some decent $$$ on a course and/tutor.
I’d really like if the course or tutor had a score increase guarantee.
My wife and two kids will be away with in-laws during this time and my new position in my job will be much easier so I can devote many hours at a time in a short timespan for study.
Any other new resources I should purchase or changes I should know about? Any experience taking an 18+ month break and returning? Thanks!

Hi shrinks1234,

Private tutoring is the best option if you feel you need a personal mentor to guide you through your preparation. Your performance will be constantly monitored by the mentor and based on the feedback you can prepare accordingly. This mostly works when students face difficulty in understanding concepts and require a one-on-one interaction with tutors with personalised learning. Moreover, if you feel you get distracted now and then, and need a mentor to keep you right on track till the end, I suggest you to go with private tutoring.

If you are open to suggestions, I would recommend you to check the private tutoring course offered by GMATWhiz. It offers a tailor made learning experience with highly experienced teachers at an affordable price and help you indulge in flawlessly personalised learning process. Our tutors have a minimum of 10 years teaching experience and we offer a hybrid learning experience where we combine the best of online learning (technology) with private tutoring. Also, the round-the-clock availability feature allows you to book the slot of your choice not having to worry about our availability on your convenient time. We use an AI based learning platform to do 3 things:

1. Get you a personalized trackable study plan that adapts in real time
2. Track your performance on the portal against 20+ data points for each question.
3. Help you learn the basic concepts through video lessons, thereby saving the number of private tutoring hours you need. (These video lessons are created by the same experts who teach you)

The tutor uses these data points before each session to identify the gaps in your learning and create relevant content for discussion. Hence each session is 5 times more effective than those offered by other private tutors as you get pin-point advice on exact reasons behind your mistakes. As a result, you get the maximum output with minimum number of sessions.

You can check out the free demo on GMATWhiz and decide for yourself if it is the one you are looking for.

Hi shrinks1234,

Regarding resources, in addition to seeking advice in this thread, take a look at the GMAT Club reviews for the best quant and verbal courses, and also read through some GMAT success stories to see what materials have worked well for other test-takers.

Also, would you like some general advice on how to improve your verbal and quant skills?

You also may find it helpful to read this article about how to score a 700+ on the GMAT.

Good luck!
