Hi all-
I wanted to send a quick note to see if some of you more experienced GMAT "gurus" could give me a push in the right direction? I have been looking through this site for the past week, and while at first I was relieved to see the large amount of good information here, unfortuntely at this point I have become overwhelmed to the point where I don't know what to do next.
I am hoping to take the GMAT in late May or sometime before early June. I have yet to begin studying although I took one basic Princeton Review test last month and scored 540. My goal is to hit 690. I guess I have 2 questions:
1) Due to my low initial score and liberal arts background (read : weak in math), would I benefit from taking a class? There are Kaplan and PR centers on my way home from work, both of which would be feasible for me. While the cost is high (and I'm not loaded), if the class did indeed assist me in getting to 690, I'd pay 10x the asking price.
a) One worry I have about a class is that I have read that each has their strengths and weaknesses. I am worried that if I take PR's class, for example, there will be things I miss and un-utlized resources that would have improved my score even more (i.e. Manhatten SC, OG, etc.,)
b) If I should take a class, which one should I take? Kaplan, PR, GMAX online, etc.,?????
2) If I can achieve the same score without the class, what materials should I buy? I have read that self study students use Kaplan 2005 with CD, OG 11th edition and Power prep (what is that?). Would those 3 resources be enough for me?
a) One worry I have about not taking a class is that I've talked to 6 MBAs and all have said "take a class." I'm afraid I would be missing something if I didn't do the class.
Thanks in advance for reading what turned out to be a pretty long post.
I'm 100% dedicated and willing to put in the work, I just want to make sure my efforts are used as efficiently as possible.
